It’s been two weeks since the release date, what are your thoughts on the new season? Visual Concepts and their developers continue to blow past competition when it comes to gameplay in simulation sport. When you’re watching it, it almost feels like you’re watching a real-life game. This is hands down the crowning jewel of NBA2K19. Each player has their own animations, skill sets and stats that will determine how they play in specific on-court situations. Just like in real life, Steph Curry will always go for that three-pointer even when he’s confronted by elite defenders.
The biggest changes to the gameplay revolve around blow-bys, defense and layups. No longer can you sprint down the court for that guaranteed layup, bringing a new level of depth to off-the-ball mechanics. All of the updates make the full NBA playing experience better and once you master the slight upgrades, the challenges become rewarding.
Players that are into the MyCareer mode, have found frustrations with the storyline interrupting the game play. For those of you who don’t know, MyCareer mode allows players to take control of one player created baller and play out their entire career. They needed a reason for people to continue to buy the game year after year, and this storyline has erupted from that over the past few years. However, it’s becoming more and more intrusive every year. You have the option to skip all of the cutscenes, but the story still weaves its way into all aspects of the mode.
It also feels like you’ve lost some of the control of the player, even though that is the whole point of the mode. You’re given a character that already has built-in character traits – arrogant, selfish, and stubborn and you just have to work with them as he takes the longest, hardest road to get to the NBA.
Despite the intrusive cutscenes and overarching storyline in MyCareer, NBA 2K19 lives up to the brilliant gameplay and presentation that Visual Concepts has worked so hard to master. Don’t forget to register for our Free Entry $250 NBA 2K19 tournament on September 26, here.
